Welcome to Blackbird Studio…

This is the next evolution of The NEST Project and the latest phase of Debbie Baxter’s artistic practice — bridging photography, installations, live performances, workshops, and events in Portland, Oregon.

The creative impulse for Blackbird emerged from a moment of rupture and recovery in Debbie’s own life, mirrored by an encounter with a blackbird that struck her in the head, fell, rose, and flew again. That experience became a spoken-word piece about sovereignty, heartbreak, and resilience, and now creates the foundation of the studio and how voice and creativity supports individual and collective transformation. Blackbird studio now offers:

‘An Evening of Expression’: a curated and intimate open mic with live performances from Portland-based artists including poets, musicians, spoken word, dancers, story-tellers, and any other creatives. Whether you have a song to sing or a poem to share, we encourage you to take the stage.
