The Natural Order of Things
A new body of photographic work by Debbie Baxter
We are not separate from nature. We belong to it.
The Natural Order of Things is an evolving body of photographic work exploring the relationship between identity, embodiment, and the living world.
Each portrait begins with conversation. Together, we discover the natural element that resonates most deeply with the participant's story. Bones, flowers, birds, snakes, nests, and other elements become collaborators—not symbols, but companions in portraits that explore resilience, transformation, grief, beauty, and belonging.
Created at Blackbird Studio in Portland, this series expands my ongoing exploration of what it means to be human by looking beyond the nest and into our relationship with the natural world.
An evolving body of work.
