Healing Wounds with a Global Community

This online journey was created with a deep commitment to creativity, connection, and the quiet courage it takes to heal. Our intention is to offer a space where you can feel seen and supported as you explore your own inner landscape. Whether you’re arriving with curiosity, longing, uncertainty, or recognition, you’re invited to participate fully and move at the pace that feels true for you.

The Nest Project reaches far beyond the striking images and hand-built nests you may know. It is a transformative process rooted in ritual, nature, and the power of being witnessed. It asks us to meet the places inside that have been hidden, silenced, or hurt and to hold them with compassion. It invites a reckoning with old stories and a rebirth into something kinder, deeper and more alive. At its heart, The NEST is a practice of remembering that we can build ourselves a safe place to be whole.

What This Program Is
This three-month workshop offers a structured yet intimate pathway to find your own form of medicine through creativity and community. Over the course of our time together, you’ll explore writing prompts, reflective practices, and symbolic or creative acts that help move healing from the mind into the body. You’ll create your own version of a “nest,” learn to honor your inner narrative, and alchemize shame or pain into purpose.

The Nest is a space where your voice matters, your experience is honored, and your presence is enough. We’re grateful you’re here and look forward to the unfolding that awaits… A sacred, high-integrity container rooted in the core principles of The Nest Project:

Embodied Healing
This is not theory; it is tactile, grounded work. Participants engage with writing, ritual, and simple physical acts that help move healing out of the mind and into the body.

Creative Medicine
Through guided exploration, participants transform raw lived experiences into a distilled piece of art or a totemic action: a poem, mantra, spoken text, altar piece, or symbolic act that they can activate.

Universal Invitation
Whether or not participants have experienced trauma, the work centers on the fundamentally human task of learning to create internal and external sanctuary.

More About Debbie Baxter

Founder & Creator of The NEST Project

The Nest Project, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded by fine art photographer, sculptor, and somatic art therapist Debbie Baxter. What began in 2016 with a self-portrait inside the first nest she built alongside her son, Zavier, has grown into a global movement dedicated to transforming trauma, loss, and pain into collective healing.

Debbie’s work is rooted in her own story. She grew up navigating a childhood marked by instability, grief, and the absence of a nurturing mother. Those early fractures shaped her understanding of safety, longing, and the places where we carry unspoken hurt. The NEST emerged from her search for a sanctuary she had never been given: a place where she could feel held, honest, and whole.

Through installation, portraiture, and somatic practice, Debbie creates spaces where others can experience that same sense of refuge. Her process invites people to meet their own histories with tenderness, to be witnessed without judgment, and to reimagine vulnerability as strength. What began as a personal exploration has become a shared pathway toward restoration, connection, and healing.
